Bailey Zampella

Bailey Zampella D.O.

Dr. Bailey Zampella is a highly skilled neurosurgeon, well regarded for her compassionate and patient- focused care for patients with neurosurgical illnesses of the brain, spine, and nerves. Her diagnostic approach and surgical plan are focused equally as much on what is correct for the patient as an individual, as on using the most current and advanced techniques in the operating room. She has expertise in both minimally invasive and traditional open neurosurgical techniques.

Dr. Zampella graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in Neurosciences. She completed her premedical studies while earning a Master’s degree in Medical Science at Drexel University School of Medicine then completed her medical degree studies with Honors at The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a year of medical research at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and her surgical internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. Her neurosurgical residency was at Riverside University Health System in southern California. After residency, she trained in the subspeciality of Functional Neurosurgery at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Zampella chose this area of additional studies because Functional Neurosurgery is focused on returning patients with devastating illnesses of the nervous system, such as Parkinson’s disease/essential tremor and some forms of epilepsy, post stroke paralysis, and chronic/cancer-related pain syndrome, to a much improved quality of life.

In addition to these functional illnesses, Dr. Zampella treats the more common adult neurosurgical treatable illnesses, such as intracranial tumors,(non-AVM/aneurysmal) brain hemorrhages, cervical/thoracic and lumbar spine degenerative-acquired conditions (stenosis, spondylolisthesis and disc herniations). All of these conditions can be treated with either minimally invasive or open surgery, keeping in mind what is best for the individual patient.

Dr. Zampella believes that giving the patient an opportunity to describe their symptoms and LISTENING to what the patient is telling you is just as important as physical exam and diagnostic imaging. She feels that the best outcomes depend both on her skills as a surgeon and her ability to explain the diagnosis, treatment and expected outcomes to the patient and family. She treats the doctor-patient relationship as a partnership, where both partners depend on each other to achieve the best possible outcome for her patient.

With this patient-centric approach and her dedication to precision care, Dr. Zampella is committed to providing the highest level of neurosurgical excellence.
